A story by Jasmine Czajka and Zachary Howell (from last summer)
Once upon a time there was a unicorn named Charlie. He was a great and majestic unicorn, who grazed the fields happily all day. No he didn’t, he ate rainbows and drank from the springs in Mexico because water is cheaper there. Okay. As usual, he was drinking from his cheap water pond in Mexico when one day, he realized he was all alone. He had nobody to share his cheap water and rainbows with and this saddened him deeply. BUT THEN! (dun dun dun!) Along came Polly! Polly the magical parrot appeared to Charlie and granted him three wishes. His first wish was for an endless supply of rainbows, for he was starting to run low. his second wish was for a best friend whom he could share his life with. And he chose to save his third wish for a later date. The great magical Polly granted his wishes and flew away in a great hurry. All of a sudden, the sky was filled with a million rainbows! And Charlie was acompanied by a strange monochromatic animal who goes by the name of Yang… The unicorn Charlie and the Great Yang were off running around doing stupid boyish things when a dark evil Tiger came up to them. This tiger was widely known in the land of Univille—which is where Charlie lives—as the pale Wizard, since he was, in fact, a white tiger named Carl. Carl was dastardly evil, and since he was a great wizard known throughout all the lands, he was very powerful. He tricked Charlie and Yang into going into a dangerous cave for his own personal benefit. Well since th e unicorn and monochromatic animals’ brains were so small, they fell for the wizard’s evil scheme! And he used them in every way possible… After about a week of evil doing, Charlie remembered about Polly! He called out for her, and she came. But when Polly showed up, she sadly informed them that she could only grant the wish to save one of them. Then Yang valiantly wished for Charlie to get saved, for he was a good monochromatic animal. Charlie said goodbye, wit the horrible knowledge that he would never see or hear from his best friend again. All of Charlies memories with Yang flooded into Yang’s mind, and a single tear rolled down his face. Charlie saw his best friend crying, and he couldn’t help but shed tears himself. As Charlie started to say “goodbye,” he instantly vanished. But then, by some magical force of nature, both Yang and Charlie found themselves in a beautiful medow complete with a pond and bamboo trees, and a cloudless sky of rainbows! Now of course, they were both very confused about this situation they were in. *poof!* In popped Polly! She perched herself atop a low branch and smiled down at the two confused creatures. She explained to them that since Yang was not originally the one whom Polly appeared to in the beginning, hi in turn was granted his own three wishes. So Polly granted Yang’s first wish to save Charlie, and also Charlie’s last wish to save Yang as well. Since Yang still had two wishes, he had no idea what to wish for. He had everything he could possibly want, and there was nothing that could come to his mind. Until one day, there was a storm that tore thier paradise apart. Since the wish for the perfect paradise had already been wished for, Polly could not grant it again. So Yang had to think for a long time about what he could possibly wish for in order to fix this paradise problem. So after three days, Yang finally came up with a solution! He called for Polly and made his wish… Spontaniously, the world around Yang and Charlie started to spin, and colors were flying across their vision, temporarily blinding them. Then it all stopped just as quickly as it had started. And they found themselves sitting in an isolated garden somewhere in the middle east probably. Or perhaps Eurasia. Charlie asked Yang what he wished for. Yang said that since he couldn’t wish for a magical paradise again in Univille, then he wished for them to be transferred to a faraway land where they would be forever safe from the pale wizard. So they were sent to a magnificent garden on Earth. On Earth, there were many different speices. One of them was called homosapiens, otherwise known as humans. The humans were a young speices, there were many things that were older than them. The humans wanted to find out everything there was and everything that is. As soon as Yang and Charlie entered the garden on Earth, a young boy came up to them. He noticed Yang, and had seen some of his kind before. But he had never seen an animal like Charlie, and his curiousity was astounding. He went back to his primitive village and told them of the animals. The villagers went to see the animals, and when they got there, they were shocked. They had never seen a unicorn before, and this had shocked Charlie. In Univille, unicorns had thrived. But he was the only unicorn on Earth. In no time, scientists were notified and they came to inspect this new unicorn animal. Some even wanted to take Charlie captive, and soon he was caged and put on display for all to see. Yang snuck out of the garden and went to see Charlie in his cage the next night. Yang felt horrible about everything that’s happened, and he told Charlie as much. Charlie told him not to worry about ita dn that this was how it was supposed to end up. Knowing there was nothing more he could do, Yang promised he would be back the next night and wandered back into th garden to sleep. That night, Yang had a dream about Charlie back in Univille before Polly ever showed up to grant his wishes. Charlie was so content and free. A big contrast, Yang realized, to how Charlie was now all couped in an uncomfortable cage. Suddenly, Yang awoke with a brilliant idea! He still had one more wish left! After summoning Polly, he wished that everything would go back to the way it was before anyone ever made any wishes and ruined their lives. Yang knew what this meant. He wouldn’t be able to see Charlie again since Charlie was the one that wished Yang there in the first place. Yang accepted the consequences humbly, and Polly granted the wish. *POOF* Charlie found himself back in his field of Mexican ponds in Univille. It was a sunny morning, but Charlie felt saddened. He still remembered Yang and the adventure they experienced together, but it all felt like a dream now that it was over. He spent the day living like he normally did before. That night, Charlie noticed that the stars were much brighter than usual. As he was admiring their beauty, he noticed that one star seemed to be much brighter than all the rest and was getting even brighter by the second! It kept growing and growing until it blinded Charlie. Then it went away, and standing in front of him was a familiar monochromatic panda. Both Charlie and Yang smiled and embraced in a big hug. They ran off to enjoy the rest of their lives of wonder and fun. But every now and then, they swear that they catch a glimpse of a mystical parrot watching over them.
